Military Toxins
SAPL monitors cleanup efforts at almost two dozen toxic-waste sites, several of them Superfund areas, at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine. SAPL has taken on an oversight role on the shipyard cleanup. Our technical staff and volunteers review proposals for short-term mitigation and long-term cleanup, alerting the general public to potential health and safety issues.

SAPL testified before the State of Maine to block the U.S. Navy's request to make the shipyard into a storage and handling site for hazardous waste from other Department of Defense sites in New England and New York.
